Jaime F Castillo
Chairman
I was born in the city of Guadalajara 62 years ago, I am a surgeon from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara with a specialty in Orthopedics and Traumatology in the IMSS for 33 years, my public and private professional practice is carried out in the city of Ocotlán, Jalisco. Currently only in private practice since I met the requirements for retirement in the IMSS 8 years ago, where I held various positions in chiefs of surgery and education during the last 20 years of institutional work.
I got to know the world of golf when I came to live in Ocotlán, when I joined the Celanese company club, a club that at that time had an exchange of members with the Chapala country club, so for more than 30 years I knew this beautiful golf course and always dreamed of becoming a member, which I achieved when I had the opportunity to come and play here with a group of friends. My sporting passion is golf and now that I am a member of the CCC and soon also a resident of Vista del Lago, I am very interested that this club becomes a better golf course every day and if in the future we could grow to 18 holes, be prepared to do so, thinking of future generations. It is time for us, the Mexican members, to get involved in the decision making for the improvements and good functioning of our club and, of course, to team up with all the members, always thinking about how we can improve our club and enjoy the sport that we are all passionate about.
Peter Wakeman
Treasurer
My wife Doris and I moved to Mexico in October 2011 and joined the Country Club that same month. We have two children: a son in Newfoundland and a daughter with two grandchildren in Ontario.
I was born in Ipswich, UK, in 1955, one of four children. I was educated there, served my apprenticeship in engineering and became a mechanical design engineer. I immigrated to Canada in 1981 to work in the growing high-tech industry in Kanata, Ontario. I started working for Lumonics, an industrial laser company, initially as a mechanical designer and finished my stint after 19 years as a custom laser systems manager. At Lumonics I met my wife Doris, who was also a mechanical designer. I then worked at two other high-tech companies as a project manager, overseeing the development of several products until moving to Mexico.
My interests are golf, the stock market and woodworking, where I do various items in support of my wife’s charity work.
After being a member and enjoying the club for the past ten years, I feel I must do my part in supporting and growing the club in any way I can be of service.

I am energetic and am continually motivated to challenge myself to encourage and support the people around me. I am an advocate for continuing education in all its forms and ages. Bill Porteous
Clubhouse Director
I would like to introduce myself. My name is William Porteous, although most people call me Bill. I was born in Ottawa, Ontario in 1958, the middle child of eight siblings.
In 1978 I moved to Calgary, Alberta. After working in various jobs, including on oil rigs and as a waiter, I returned to education and graduated with a BSC in information systems in 1986. I worked in the IT profession from 1986 until I entered the private sector in 1993. At that time, my sister and I decided to take a chance and bought an English style Pub in the heart of Kensington in Calgary. For 22 years I co-owned and operated the successful Kensington Pub, until my full retirement in 2015.
My wife and I have resided lakeside, both full and part time, since 2003. We have been members of the CCC for nine years and I feel I now have the knowledge and experience to be of benefit to the board.
Robert Elwood
Golf Course Director and Long Range Plan
My wife Tina and I moved to Lakeside in early 2018 from the Salt Lake City area. Between us we have five children and three grandchildren. We love our new home, the culture and friendliness of the Mexican people, and all that Lakeside has to offer. An important part of that is the Chapala Country Club.
My background is in the corporate world of telecommunications. I spent 30 years selling technology to enterprises and eventually leading large sales organizations for companies such as Bell, AT&T, US West and Qwest. More recently, I gained small business experience. I owned and operated a custom Murphy bed business.
Tina and I were members of Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy, Utah, for over 20 years. During my time there, I contributed to our club by serving on the long range planning committee and the grounds committee. Here at our club I have also served on our grounds committee. We are working hard to continually improve the condition and operation of the golf course.
I have decided to run for the board of directors in 2021. I have given it a lot of thought and believe I can make a positive contribution to the overall success of Chapala Country Club. I am confident that we can continue to improve our club over time and I would appreciate your support.
Ruben Santana
Director of Golf
My name is Jose Ruben Santana Ochoa. My wife Monica and I have lived in Chapala for 19 years. We have two children, Meggan and Josué, and we reside in Mirasol, municipality of Chapala. I have been retired from the CFE since 2016.
I am an Industrial Engineer from the University of Guadalajara and I have a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from TEC Milenio. I began my work at the CFE in the State of Nayarit, where I held several positions, such as Commercial Agent and Distribution Engineer. Later, I was transferred to the Vallarta Zone, where I was head of the electrical substations department and then head of the distribution department of the Vallarta zone.
In early 2004, I was appointed General Superintendent of the Chapala Distribution Zone, where I worked until my retirement after 30 years of service in the CFE.
Currently, I have a small business installing and selling solar energy equipment. I have been a member of Chapala Country Club since 2016, and would like to serve on the Board of Directors for all CCC members, for the benefit of Chapala Country Club.
David Naisby
Membership Director
Barbara and I joined the club in 2014 as refugees from Scotland. We arrived with 2 sets of beginner golf clubs, 5 suitcases and 2 dogs. We never looked back.
Historically, I was a Dental Surgeon for 37 years. We, i.e. my wife and I, ran a large practice in England for 10 years until we moved to Scotland in 1988 in search of a better lifestyle. When we decided to retire after 26 years in Scotland, we had developed a practice recognized worldwide for excellence and we enjoyed it very much.
Getting back to golf. I didn’t really start learning/playing golf until we joined the club, although I knew the mechanics as all my family were very high level golfers. Barbara was never going to play. Look how long that lasted.
We both, to our surprise, became very involved in the club. I became, by default, the GoGo guru, which I ran for about 2 years until politics messed it up. I also introduced and ran night golf events, which, being at night, created challenges as the bar etc. was officially closed, but was always a great success.
Barbara was Membership Chair for 2 years and managed it extremely successfully. When her term ended and she started a new and, to date, successful online business, I took over as Membership Director and continued her work.
I resigned from my position at the end of 2021 because I felt that I could not, in all honesty, continue with the board at that time. However, under new leadership, I would like to continue the process.

Tina Elwood
Commissioner
My name is Tina Cirino Elwood. My husband Rob and I moved to Ajijic in 2018. Between us we have four daughters and one son.
I was born in a small town near Toledo, Ohio, and graduated from The Ohio State University, College of Optometry, with a degree in Optometric Medicine. After moving to Utah, I practiced Optometry for thirty-five years. My work experience includes a partnership in two locations for twelve years and owning my own practice for eleven years, in addition to a variety of other practice styles.
I started playing golf when I was eight years old. I played junior golf tournaments for seven years, high school golf for three years and two seasons of college golf. And I have continued to play throughout my adult life. I had a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic and a shoulder injury.
I enjoy our club and look forward to making a positive contribution.
Scott Cardiner
Alternate Director
Born and raised in New York, I have been playing golf since I was 9 years old. I was captain of both my high school team and my college team.
I moved to Los Angeles in 1974 to pursue a graduate degree at UCLA. I lived primarily in Southern California until my late wife Sarita and I retired to Ajijic in 2019. In California, I was a member of the Porter Valley Country Club and a charter member of the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
I am blessed with 5 sons: 4 from my first marriage and a daughter-in-law.
I currently live in West Ajijic. However, my immediate plan is to sell my house and move to VDL. That will give me the opportunity not only to use the course and practice facilities on a daily basis, but also to devote a lot of time to the club itself.
Robert Edwards
Vice President
My wife Marilyn and I have three children and five grandchildren. We bought our home here in Vista del Lago in December 2006 and retired to live here permanently in July 2010.
I hold a Construction and Maintenance Electrician license. I worked for Ontario Hydro and Atomic Energy of Canada building Nuclear Power Plants for 38 years. Most recently I worked in China, Romania and South Korea as a Construction Manager for Electrical and Control Instrumentation.
I am currently the Maintenance Director for the Vista del Lago Settlers Board for 14 years and have served on the CCC Board for 7 years as a Commissioner, on the Greens committee, Long Range Planning, Golf Chair and Co-Chair.
Ma. Francisca Azparren-Groseclos
Assistant Commissioner
Hello, my name is Ma. Francisca Azparren-Groseclos. I grew up in Central California and Northern Spain. Both Spanish and English were my native languages. I come from a family of sheep herders and was very involved in the Kern County Basque Club.
I attended UCLA twice. I first studied English Literature and then returned to study Food Science, majoring in baking. I spent 4 years at La Brea Bakery. Upon moving to Spain, I worked as an English teacher and upon returning to the United States, I worked long hours as a legal secretary. On my resume I also have experience as a Florist and Event Planner. Throughout my personal life and career, I have been detail oriented, task oriented and goal oriented. I am outgoing, enjoy challenges and make friends wherever I go.
After the birth of my daughter, Amaya Patrice, I became a full-time mother, school mom (for 8 years), PTO/PTA leader and community volunteer. A side note about my wonderful husband Dennis: We were high school classmates, dated, and then didn’t speak again for over 30 years. If you want the full story, ask him, as his version is much more entertaining. After meeting Dennis, we got married and planned to move to Mexico to play golf and eat.
My ties to this beautiful country began in 1974 when my maternal grandparents moved to the Chapala/Ajijic area. My mother followed them in 2004 and since then I have been coming for extended visits every year, for at least 3 months out of the year. About 2 years ago, Dennis and I decided to make it permanent and we couldn’t be happier!
