Updates for the Red Cross Tournament on November 6th
This year we have assigned seating. There are 20 tables with 10 seats per table. Five of the tables are currently reserved. That means if you want to sit with your friends and you are golfing, you need to pay for the golf and select your table. If you are not golfing, please buy a comida ticket and select your seat.
Last year the 80 golf tickets were gone by October 15th. This year will be no different. We have about 20 corporate players. That leaves 60 places for Club members. 12 or so people from the Club have signed up so far. That leaves less than 50 golfing spots. My advice whether you have signed up or not: pay for your ticket and choose your table ASAP.
Seating this year will be on the lower and upper terrazas. Both terrazas are non-smoking for this event only. The tents on the grass will hold the silent and live auction items. The grassy area between the tent and the terraza is for displaying live auction items as they are being sold, and to allow access to the tent and the silent auction. There will be two smaller tents for food service.
Like last year the bulk of our stuff for the live and silent auction is brand new and it is all very desirable. We will be publishing auction lists in October so you can preview the items. We have been promised many things, but here is what we have so far for the live auction:
1.75 liters bottles of Buffalo Trace and Markers Mark Bourbon
STI Lithium Golf Cart battery with a digital readout
1 week at the Diamond Bay Boutique Resort in Mazatlan
Boos maple cutting board with a boxed carving set from Ojeda Knives
Men’s Scott Bicycle and Women’s Garmeau Bicycle with helmets and a tire pump
Elizabeth Skelsey 48” X 72” acrylic painting
Luis Cortez Tonala Barro Brunido tall pot with lid
Cigars from Master Cigar maker Ulises Castillo
A new addition to the auction will be Lorenza Castiello. Some of you may recall that we have hired her for our AGMs to do simultaneous translation. She has agreed to volunteer her time. I am hoping she can bring 30 or 40 headsets so that everyone can follow along with the action in Spanish or English.
On the golf side, the tournament rules are available in the Pro Shop. Each captain will get a written copy in Spanish and English. It is their job to review the rules with their team. We will not be reviewing them for the group. Our schedule is to have short opening remarks at 8:30, and pass out the rules and score cards for an 8:45 tee off.
Slow play is a chronic problem for tournaments. We will have two marshals. If your group is playing slowly, you will be warned twice. The third time you will be asked to jump a hole and take a net par.
The food is similar to last year with one exception. Instead of sandwiches, there will be tacos at 3 green and taquitos at 6 green. Continental breakfast is the same and the pig roast is the same.
As we did last year, there will be several businesses with stands on the course. For the sake of the pace of play, you are encouraged to visit them quickly. Think about a drive through instead of a sit down restaurant. Some of the businesses have made commitments and many from last year are returning. One new business is master cigar maker, Ulises Castillo. He will be rolling cigars at the event as well as selling cigars he previously made.
We are still looking for dinners that you host in your home, condos at the beach, and items for the silent auction. Of course we are always interested in cash donations. If you are so inclined leave the money at the business office. For other items, please leave them at the Pro Shop.
For all of you who made it to the last paragraph, I owe you a gold star. The reason we are raising money for the Red Cross is to finish the construction of the building. They need 4,000,000 more pesos on a 20,000,000 peso build. All funds raised are doubled by an anonymous donor.
Thanks again for your support,
Rodney and Peggy Brooks
