I was born in Guadalajara city 62 years ago, I am a surgeon from the Autonomous University of Guadalajara with a specialty in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the IMSS for 33 years, my public and private professional practice is carried out in Ocotlan city, Jalisco. Currently only private practices since I met retirement requirements at the IMSS 8 years ago, where I held various positions in chiefs of surgery and education for the last 20 years of institutional work. I got to know the world of golf when I came to live in Ocotlan, when I enrolled in the club of the Celanese company, a club that at that time had an exchange of members with the country club of Chapala, so for more than 30 years I knew this beautiful golf course and I always dreamed of becoming a member, as far as I could do it, when I had the opportunity I came to play here with a group of friends. My sports passion is the golf and now that I am a member of the CCC and soon a resident of Vista del Lago also, I am very interested in this club becoming a better golf course every day and if in the future we could grow to 18 holes, to be prepared for doing it, we think in future generations. It is time for us Mexican members to get involved in decisión making for the improvements and proper functioning of our club and of course to make a team up with all members, always thinking about how we can improve our club and enjoy the sport that all passionate us.

Renee Castles
Directora de Casa Club

I am a fine art painter and a cook from San Francisco, CA. I studied Art History and photography at UCSC in Santa Cruz, CA . Later at City College, in San Francisco I began painting which I continue to do today. My back ground in professional cooking began at Home Chef, a retail/cooking school in San Francisco.

At Home Chef I was the kitchen coordinator, tasked with buying all foods and goods for the cooking school and prepping for recipes which were to be taught in the evening classes as well as making those recipes which were to be presented and eaten by the class at the end.

I was then asked to help a pastry chef friend rebuild “the pastry” at Bradley Ogden-s highend restaurant, The Lark Creek Inn, in Marin county, I baked professionally for the next 6 months until we found a new pastry chef.

At this time I was married and living in a beautiful Victorian condo in SF. We had just finished remodeling and decorating when my husband suddenly died, a wrongly diagnosed brain tumor. I sold the condo and moved back to my house in Mill Valley, California.

As I remained serious about painting, I designed and built a studio for that purpose on top of my house. I had several very successful shows there and over the years continued to remodel the lower half of the house all the while painting.

In 2008 I married Vern Castle and we bought beach front property on the West coast of Mexico near San Blas, Nayarit. We designed and built two houses and for ll years spent most winters there. Every second year when we rented a house in Bali for 5 monthswhere we both worked, Vern as a writer and me as a painter. It was an inspirational time for us both.

In 2019 we decided to make Mexico our permanent home. We bought the Mueller house in Vista del Lago. Although beautifully sited, the house, because of its age, needed to be upgraded so we set to work. It needed to be remodeled to fit our needs and after all of our experience designing and remodeling houses in the US and Mexico we were
undaunted!

We moved in November of 2019, joined the Chapala Country Club and started our new, full time Mexico life. Despite the advent of the covid pandemic, we found new friends andnever looked back. I look forward to helping our world class golf course also have a world class club house.

My wife Tina and I moved to Lakeside early in 2018 from the Salt Lake City area. Between us we have five children and three grandchildren. We love our new home, the culture and kindness of the Mexican people, and all that Lakeside has to offer. An important part of that is Country Club de Chapala.

My background is in the corporate world of telecommunications. I spent 30 years selling technology to businesses and eventually leading large sales organizations for companies such at Bell, AT&T, US West and Qwest. Most recently I gained experience in small business. I owned and operated a custom Murphy Bed business.

Tina and I were members of Willow Creek Country Club in Sandy, Utah for over 20 years. During my time there I contributed to our club by serving on the long-range planning committee and the grounds committee. Here at our club I have also been a member of our grounds committee. We are working hard to continually improve the condition and operation of the golf course.

I have decided to run for the board of directors in 2021. I have given it a great deal of thought and believe I can contribute positively to the overall success of Country Club de Chapala. I am confident we can continue to improve our club over time and would appreciate your support.

Barbara and I joined the club in 2014 as refugees from Scotland.
We arrived with 2 sets of beginners golf clubs, 5 suitcases and 2 dogs. We never looked back.
Historically, I was a Dental Surgeon for 37 yrs. I, rather … we, ran a large practice in England for 10 years until we moved to Scotland in 1988 for a better lifestyle. When we decided to retire after 26 years in Scotland we had grown a practice which was recognized throughout the world for excellence and we had a blast.
Back to Golf. I really did not start to learn/play golf until we joined the club although I knew the mechanics as my whole family were golfers to a very high standard. Barbara was never going to play. Look how long that lasted.
We both became, much to our surprise, very involved with the club. I became, by default, the GoGo guru which I ran for 2 or so years until politics messed it up. I also introduced and ran Night golf events which, being night time, created challenges as the bar etc was officially shut but it was always a huge success.
Barbara was Membership chair for 2 years and ran it extremely successfully. When her term ended and she went on to start a new and, to date, successful online business, I took over as Membership director and continued her work.
I resigned my position in late 2021 because I felt that I could not, in all honesty, continue with the board in situ at that time.
However, under new management, I would like to continue the process.

Before coming to live in Mexico, my husband, John, and I raised our family in the small hamlet of Ardrossan, outside the City of Edmonton, Alberta. For 25 years, after obtaining a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) and a Bachelor of Education, I taught High School Social Studies in the Edmonton Public School system. During that time, I was responsible for the creation and management of an International Basketball tournament, and encouraging students to create and maintain two charities (Santa’s Anonymous and Coats for Kids) which are still viable entities. Beyond the school environs, I was the President of the Strathcona County Chapter of Canadian Parents for French and was awarded the Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada “in recognition of significant contribution to compatriots, community and to Canada”. John and I joined the Chapala Country Club in September of 2000. I served a 2 year term as the Chairperson of the Ladies’ Golfing group and John was President of the Golf Club for two years, 2010 and 2011. Since John’s death in 2014, I have remained a Golfing member of CCC. During that time, I have adopted the attitude that I come to Chapala Country Club for “the sun, the fun, and the friendships” and feel that with that in mind, I am approachable by most of the members of the Club and can readily communicate with them. Having served on other Boards in Mexico, including two terms as a Board member of Fraccionamiento San Juan Cosala Raquet Club A.C. and two and a half years as the Secretary of Operation Feed, I feel that I have the background to understand the law in Mexico as it relates to our Constitution. I have also developed good relations with many Mexican families as a result of teaching English as a Second Language over the last five years. As a result of the latter activity, I have often found myself in situations where my listening skills have helped me to appreciate both sides of an issue and I have often resolved problems with both compromises and solutions based on the achievement of consensus among those involved. I would work diligently to represent all of the members of the Chapala Country Club and give an unbiased interpretation of any proposed actions by the elected members of the Board, as is the duty of a Commisario.
